Question:

Hi!! Well, I just heard of the Trevor Project, and I absolutely love it! It’s brilliant. I used to cut myself, but then I joined a cheer team. All of those girls made me realize how strong and beautiful I am. I slowly stopped cutting myself and I’m 1 year clean!!!  This whole project just sounds amazing and I would love to help others in need, because I know what it feels like and I don’t think anything sounds better than helping others who are really struggling with themselves!

Answer:

We are so happy that you have connected with us at the Trevor Project! Congratulations to you for being clean for a whole year—that is fantastic news and we commend you on your hard work and self care!

We understand that although cutting can sometimes temporarily take away incredible stress, in the long run it can lead to serious complications. We also understand how difficult it is to stop cutting, so in every way, congratulations to you!

What the girls on the cheer team have done for you is a true gift of friendship. True friends build one another up with love, kindness, encouragement, and truth. You are a strong and beautiful person, and we are so happy that your friends helped you to see that!

And when someone receives a gift that builds them up and changes them, often they want to share it—just like you. And you can share love, kindness, encouragement, and truth with those around you who are in need of true friendship. Trevor Space (www.trevorspace.org) is a great supportive community of LGBTQ youth ranging in age from 13 to 24 where you can connect with others who have had similar struggles. There are many others out there who can benefit from the gift of friendship and encouragement that you received. Giving back is often a wonderful way to not only take care of others, but take care of ourselves.

We would like to continue to be connected with you. We are here 24/7 online (www.thetrevorproject.org) and by phone  (1-866-4-U-TREVOR, 1-866-488-7386), so please reach out! We are here for you, today, and into the future, as you continue your journey and help others along the way too.
